Classical Fantasia Ticket Launch
Today was the ticket launch for the popular Classical Fantasia held at Kirkstall Abbey. This year’s performance takes place on Saturday 18th September and the eagerly-awaited 9,000 free tickets were given away from 10am today in Millenium Square.
All 9,000 tickets were expected to be quickly claimed on launch day and Kirkstall Online has contacted Leeds City Council to check whether any remain.
On social networking site Twitter, Heather Healy said “Just powered through the classical fantasia queue – only took 15 mins” and Mike Wallis (who also provided the photograph above) reported he was “In the queue for classical fantasia tickets. Over 75 mins before opening, there’s already well over 150 ppl ahead of me!”

“Mary and I aimed to be early for a 10.00 distribution, but when we arrived at 09.30 issuing was well under way. It was very efficiently handled, with the last section through the desks being at normal walking pace. Well done Leeds City Council.”
Tickets all gone. Could not get one for the fourth year running. Why do the tickets this way? There are lots of people, with families at school who have to go on holiday then. What about the less mobile members of our community who can’t easily get to queue up in the city centre? Whay are there none resrved for distibutionto people who actually live in the area?
The only time I have ever managed to get tickets for the Classical Fantasia has been one of the first years it was held.
We were walking around the Abbey and we saw the stage and lighting being set up for the event.
I asked a guy at a caravan what it was for and when I was told I asked if there were tickets left. He went into the caravan and came out with two tickets.
That was the first and last time I managed to get tickets.
75 minutes queueing, are you mad!? I was there shortly before ten and had got my tickets in under 10 minutes. Very efficiently organised, wish they could do the same for opera in the park ticket launches.
Leeds City Council events team emailed to say that indeed all tickets were given out on launch day.
