Buckley Jewellery Poppies Comments Off
Kirkstall-based Buckley Jewellery has launched its 2011 jewelled poppy range in support of the Royal British Legion, supporting serving and ex-Service personnel in the armed forces.
They were first commissioned to design an exclusive Remembrance Poppy Brooch for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal in 2009. Company founder and CEO Adrian Buckley personally designed the 18ct gold plated Buckley Poppy Brooch, encrusted with stunning ruby crystals, and donated all of Buckley’s proceeds from the sale of the original poppy brooch that featured on QVC to the RBL. A cheque for £1500 was presented to the RBL and this went towards helping those that need it most.
Last year saw this total rise to over £30,000 and the poppy was featured on a number of TV shows, even appearing on the X-Factor. This year Buckley, based in Wyther Green in Kirkstall, hopes to raise £1 million for the charity.
It is the Royal British Legions Poppy Appeal’s 90th Anniversary this year and Adrian is in the process of designing further exclusive products for this landmark occasion, including features in the national press, a two-hour show on QVC hosted by company founder and CEO Adrian Buckley. These are available for sale via the official British Legion Poppy Shop with all profits going directly to the Royal British Legion.
Remembrance Sunday is 13th November at 2.30pm at Kirkstall Cenotaph (by BHS). Wear your Buckley poppy with pride!

Either way; it’s half-way Comments Off
Mike Harwood has written another fascinating local history article, this time the memorial milestone outside the entrance to Kirkstall Forge, which reads:
“To London 200 miles S.
To Edinburg 200 miles N.
Erected A. D. 1829.
B & B
Kirkstall Forge 1779.
Leeds 3 ¾ miles’”
This is the latest article which charts the history about our area, and his previous articles include stunning pieces on the history of De Lacy Mount and the Normans.
The Local History section of the website is in the discussion boards and is full of interesting articles, please have a read of http://www.kirkstall.org.uk/board/forum_topics.asp?FID=1
Putting Kirkstall On The Map 3
We now have a map of our local area with local attractions, things to do, sports fields and local issues all shown in one place. Wondered where your nearest playing field was? Its there. Wondered what route the Abbey Light Railway takes? That’s there too.
We’ve also highlighted areas that are an issue for our community and have provided information on projects on the go in the area for you to find out more and get involved.
It will be updated as new things come along and should provide the local community with a visual reference to what is going on in our area.

Kirkstall Remembers Comments Off
The train was just leaving for Kirkstall Abbey as people started to arrive at Kirkstall War Memorial for the Annual Service of Remembrance led by Revd Rosemarie Hayes of Kirkstall St Stephen’s.
A wreath was laid by a young soldier, who had recently returned from Afghanistan, as we remembered those from Kirkstall who had died for their country in war.
At the end of this short, moving Service, we all pledged ourselves to be peace-makers, in our homes and in our community and throughout the world.
